New “Novelties” in the Tinker’s Packs!
Every month in the Tinker’s Packs (the official Pat Rothfuss / Worldbuilders online store), we try to debut some new and interesting stuff. A lot of the new stuff we feature is limited–either a product that has a crazy-small production run, a combined pack of cool stuff you can’t get anywhere else, or signed books where we couldn’t chain the author down for more than about five copies or so. We figured you might be curious to see what exactly we have…in store.
Last things first, we have a few hardcover copies of Paulo Bacigalupi’s most recent novel, The Water Knife, and each one comes with a bookplate we asked Paulo to sign when we were at GenCon last August. The Water Knifeis a futuristic thriller where water is more valuable than gold, and folks like our protagonist Angel Velasquez get paid to make sure the water flows toward the top bidder. Death, double-crosses, and the dry desert abound.
Grab your copy before they’re gone!
Of course, that’s not the only book we have, oh no. If you get uncomfortably thirsty just thinking about the dystopian world in The Water Knife, maybe you need some Oatmeal instead. Why Grizzly Bears Should Wear Underpants is a collection of some of the best comics from The Oatmeal, as well as some of the best comics you’ll only find in this book. You haven’t read The Oatmeal? Well, we can only assume you just didn’t know about it yet. Smart, funny, profane, gross, and funny again (often because of an expert mix of these ingredients), The Oatmeal will delight you. And your very own signed and doodled copy of Why Grizzly Bears is exactly what you need to treat yourself right.
Yes, the title is thoughtfully explained within.
If you’re not into Water Noir or jokes about animal genitals, how about some straight-up fantasy at a discount? Sometimes we get shipments of books that fell into unfortunate circumstances. It happens. But when it happens to books, corners get dented, dust jackets get creased, and sometimes things just look a little off. We don’t want to get rid of perfectly readable books, so we lower the price and label them “bruised.” The bruised books in the Tinker’s Packs are updated pretty regularly as shipments come in, and most of the time, what’s wrong with them isn’t immediately noticeable. So if you’re okay with a couple bent corners, grab yourself a deal!
Take a look at all the currently available bruised books.
And now that we’ve tempted you with all these books, how about something to help keep your place as you read them? Some of the “bruised” books come in completely unreadable. “Bruised” does not mean “torn, broken, and no longer able to book.” We still can’t bring ourselves to get rid of even the books that don’t book correctly. So Rachel carefully sliced the undamaged pages into strips, which we then lovingly laminated in heavy plastic for years of use. This round of bookmarks is made from actual pages from The Slow Regard of Silent Things, so if you’d like to be super meta about it, you know which book to read next!
Kids these days are calling it “upcycling.”
While most of our supporters tend to decorate their homes with bookshelves (and why wouldn’t they?), some people also like something called “art.” It’s usually cool-looking flat things you can hang on a wall. We know, right? Genius! If you need flat things for your walls, we can help.
For walls, autograph frames, or collages, we have an 8″x10″ print of Karen Hallion’s Doctor Pat, printed on photographic paper that won’t fade until your grandchildren are dealing with a lack of ozone layer (and therefore more UV rays, which cause fading, because science). Karen signed the back of each print, and they’re pretty sharp (but they don’t have the copyright blurb on them, sorry). She drew this one for a stretch goal during our 2015 annual fundraiser, and if you’d like to watch her color it, you certainly can!
We like how his sonic screwdriver is really a sonic pen.
For larger walls, we have posters with Shane Tyree’s art from the Name of the Wind playing card Kickstarter. These posters feature the character and card art from one of the more beautiful poker decks we’ve seen. We debuted a few of them in the store last year, so this collection rounds out the entire series. Grab your favorite character and enjoy Shane’s beautiful art. Oh, we also got Pat to sign them, too! If you can’t decide, we have uncut sheets of the actual cards that make unique posters, feature all of Shane’s images, and have that cool Bicycle Playing Card finish.
Here’s this round, but All the Posters are available in the store.
We’ll do our best to keep you updated on new products as they come out, but we might not always be the first to say something. If you want to know as soon as possible what’s been added to the Tinker’s Packs each month, feel free to sign up for the newsletter! It’s sent out as soon as the products go live, and sometimes they have an extra featured product or an exclusive promotional code you can use.
Thanks again for supporting Worldbuilders. We really appreciate it, and we hope you’re having as much fun with all this as we are!
