For the Geeks Doing Good fundraiser we did through IndieGoGo in the summer of 2014, Pat wanted us to offer a “mystery box” full of books. That became our rather popular book bundles A, B, and C. But he really liked the idea of a mystery box, and wanted to talk about it in our fundraiser video. That didn’t work out well. Brett will explain:

Pat really wanted to talk about the mystery box, and he wanted the puppet there for some reason. So there I was, trying to help him talk about a box that contained who-knows-what. I don’t think we had even decided what the mystery was at that point. We just kept riffing on the unknown contents of the box, throwing in references to Pandora’s Box and a questionable SNL sketch. I had the bright idea of having the monkey pop out of the box at a given cue, but Pat, running on about 2 hours of sleep, never once kept a straight face. Ever. None of the takes were usable for the final video.

We also found out that Rachel, who really is entering her third week of employment here as of today, scares easily. So if you see us at a con, please approach her from the front, slowly, and with your palms outward. Don’t make any sudden moves, and speak in low, comforting tones. She’s an awesome worker and we don’t want to lose her.
