Shiny Things!

FOLLY

Sorry, we couldn’t resist. But isn’t Caesura beautiful? The folks at Jalic Blades did a great job, even with scads of interference notes from Pat. This is the Ademic sword we wanted, needed, and frankly, dream about at night. And Jalic donated a few of them (along with some more cool stuff) to us for our lottery and auctions.

Right now, we’re auctioning off a very special Caesura package, and as usual, the money all goes to Heifer International. The auction is for the sword, numbered 761 of 5000, with a signed COA and an original, custom scabbard that Jalic was nice enough to make for us! When they sent Pat his very own Caesura, they also gave him a one-of-a-kind leather scabbard designed specifically for the sword. It’s Ademically simple, beautifully crafted, and blood red.

When we decided to include a Caesura in our auctions, they agreed to make a scabbard for us, based on the one they gave Pat. Behold:

So if you absolutely need this rare collectible, head over to the auction. Jalic also sent us some Game of Thrones goodness–a Stark Infantry Shield and a Lannister Shield, both of which are also on auction.

If the Caesura auction gets too rich, there’s a way you can be entered to win one in the lottery (minus the scabbard, though)! Just head over to the Kingkiller Team Page on our donation site and donate through that page. Like our main lottery, every $10 you donate gets your name in the hat one time. Donating through a Team Page unlocks a few fan-specific items (like Caesura and other cool Kingkiller stuff), while still entering you into the main lottery. So if you donate $120 through the Kingkiller Team Page–enough for a goat–your name will be entered 12 times to to win something from our main lottery, with the Kingkiller items added to the pool.

If swords aren’t your thing, how about some geeky jewelry from Badali Jewelry? Badali, apart from being some of the nicest people on the planet (and maybe from off-world–we’re still not sure about Janelle), always donates plenty of their lovely jewelry to our fundraisers and parties. This year, as always, they donated some awesome stuff–but the big standout for us was Jim Butcher’s very own personal Force Ring:

Can you feel it? Radiating from your screen? Tingly!

When we were at the Salt Lake Comic Con, our booth was right behind Badali’s booth. Janelle would poke her head through the curtain from time to time and make rude noises to get our attention. Suddenly Hillarie rounded the corner and handed us a black box with a silver ring in it and said, “Here, it’s Jim Butcher’s personal Force Ring. He gave it back to us, and we thought you could use it for your fundraiser or something. ‘Byeeee!”

Needless to say, we had questions.

It turns out that this was a sterling silver Force Ring prototype Badali made during its development. They gave it to Jim, who wore it for a couple years, including the entire time he wrote Skin Game. While he was at Salt Lake, he brought it back to them and asked if they could think of someone who needed it. We’re flattered they thought of us!

So if you need a piece of Dresden Files history, this is the motherlode:

  • It’s an early prototype
  • It’s Jim’s own personal ring
  • It was there for the entire Skin Game journey
  • It’s silver, and therefore a decent defense against warewolves

You can bid on it over on eBay.

There’s plenty more awesomeness from Badali ranging from Peter V. Brett’s Demon Cycle to Lovecraft to Lord of the Rings (and more), and you can see it all in our Lottery Library! When you make your donation, just be sure to select “YES” next to jewelry to be eligible for these prizes.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! We had a great first day yesterday, and the Team Pages are chugging along nicely. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via our contact form, and we’ll be on social media from time to time with comments and updates. Please like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter, and if something catches your fancy (or you just want to spread the word) we’d love it of you shared and retweeted as much as you can. Every signal boost helps!

We’ll be back tomorrow to talk about one of our favorite fantasy authors! Who? Padrick Rothbus? No, we’re referring to John Scalzi!
