Mindy is perpetually upbeat. That’s just a thing about her we all had to get used to when she started. It’s rare that something annoys her, but one of the few things that does is people not accepting freely given compliments. Unfortunately, this is something the Worldbuilders team has a problem with: not only are we hopelessly mid-western, but we’re also very hard on ourselves. It’s next to impossible for any of us to admit we did something right, let alone well.

Mindy got so sick of us constantly deflecting compliments that she announced she was going to give a class on how to be graceful when complimented. The closest she got was all of us qualifying the thanks by prepending it with her name so she knew for sure we were thanking her under duress.

Since then, “Mindy Thanks” is common office shorthand for “I’ll say thank you, but I’m doing so grudgingly just to move the conversation along.” Mindy declared that a partial win was still a win.
